Introduction
It’s that time of year again when I run my Jewellery Making Courses in the heart of the Cotswolds, for real beginners or those with some experience. I have been making jewellery for over 35 years (with a couple of breaks to allow me to follow other interests) and have worked and sold my jewellery in Germany and France as well as having my own high street shop in the Cotswolds for many years.
My courses last five days and will run from Monday morning at 9 o’clock to Friday afternoon around four-thirty. We will have a break in the middle of the day for an hour for lunch, and coffee/tea/drink breaks are taken at your discretion. Please note – we (my wife and I) do not provide lunch (but there are several great cafes 5 minutes away) but we do supply hot and cold drinks at intervals during the day.
About the course
I will supply ALL the tools you will need as well as any other general jeweller’s equipment like polishers, Ultrasonic cleaners, flexi-drive etc. All the silver you will need to create yourself something beautiful will be supplied by me at £2.80* per gram and gemstones will be charged at a realistic price. I have hundreds of gemstones in stock for you to choose from if you wanted to include a stone in your creations. All you have to bring is an apron (or some protective clothing), safety glasses and a willingness to learn. I have a small but very well equipped jewellery workshop just outside Gloucester, four minutes drive from junction 12 of the M5. If you are a beginner, my aim is to give you the skills to enable you to make an item in real silver (perhaps with a gemstone in it) that you can be proud of and wear, knowing you made it. If you have some experience, then I am happy to tailor-make a course that will fulfil your needs. Apart from the cost of the raw materials, which you purchase from me at a realistic price, I supply everything else you will need, as part of the course, to enable you to create something beautiful that you can take home with you. During this relaxed but challenging week you will learn new skills which will enable you to make your own piece of silver jewellery which you will take home. All the basic skills of jewellery-making techniques will be covered. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a complete novice or you have a bit of experience in jewellery making, I can cater for all levels of experience. If you would like to incorporate a gemstone into your creation, I will show you different ways to set gemstones if that is in fact what you would like. It is my intention to basically tailor my courses to my student’s needs, desires and skill levels. It is very realistic to expect that you will be able to create and finish a lovely piece of jewellery like a ring, a pendant, or a pair of earrings, with or without a gemstone.
